AFTERTHOUGHTS

In my 2015 book release, The Way Things Oughta Be, I offer numerous chapters with analyses and suggestions for improving the world, whether it be politics, science, education, criminal justice, family issues, love and romance and so much more. At the very end of the book, I present a chapter titled, “Afterthoughts” which is a list of one-liners, without essay or analysis.

I thought some folks might be interested…so I extracted this chapter and created a short blog.  (With the author’s permission, of course) See what you think.

                                                            AFTERTHOUGHTS

Sometimes, a simple answer can identify a question.  According to your author, here are a few one-line reflections on – The Way Things Oughta Be:

  • Smart people should think twice about the long-range consequences before blanketing their bodies with tattoo ink.
  • Parents who sit with their kids at restaurant tables engrossed with tablets and smart phones tell me they’ve lost the ability to communicate.
  • I’m a fan of space travel, but I also wonder if the enormous costs outweigh the benefits, and those billions of dollars could not be better funneled to more pressing needs.
  • Abolish car alarms. They are useless costs added to the price of an auto.
  • Schools, libraries, and other public properties should ban boys from wearing pants below their butts and exposing underwear. There is nothing wrong with standards.
  • The term “African-American” is a misnomer that fails to account for all the indigenous Arabs and whites who also come from Africa, which, after all, is a continent, not a country.
  • Non-citizen immigrants who arrive here and express hate for America should be given a one-way ticket back to their native country.
  • If a public employee refuses to pledge allegiance to the United States he or she should not be employed by the taxpayer.
  • The Pledge can easily be recited minus “under God” for anyone who so chooses, and should not be politicized.
  • Enemies in foreign countries with whom we are engaged in combat are not entitled to American civil rights. Advising them of their “rights” is an absurdity that benefits the enemy and not America.
  • Very little quality attention is paid to the problems of severe mental illness in America, which causes more grief, money and peril than we realize.
  • Unaccounted-for minorities, or other human categories that don’t seem to matter, include – mentally ill, prison inmates, returning ex-cons, and homeless.
  • Restaurants should post warning signs that advise parents they will be asked to remove loud and misbehaving children from the premises.
  • Telephone solicitations, political messages, and other nuisance calls that disturb millions, including the infirmed, should be declared a federal crime not protected by the First Amendment.
  • Young men and women who adorn their faces with multiple piercings should realize they are creating a gross distraction from their otherwise good looks.
  • Can anyone articulate a reason why the federal government needs a Department of Education?
  • English should be deemed, by act of Congress, as the official language of the United States, while at the same time encouraging bi-lingual education in schools and special education.
  • No veteran who honorably served his or her country should be allowed to live homeless.
  • I have a name. Please don’t call me “Man.”

THE TRUTH ABOUT HATE CRIMES

Congress has defined a Hate Crime as a “criminal offense against a person or property motivated in whole or in part by an offender’s bias against a race, religion, disability, ethnic origin or sexual orientation.”

We mostly hear about “hate crimes” as they relate to offenses against religion. Some think that the problem of hate crime is predominantly centered against Muslims.  Muslims – as well as media — would have us believe that the mere planting of a piece of bacon at the doorstep of a mosque is an act of hatred toward Muslims. Many say that Muslims are the main targets of hate crimes in America.

     Well, here’s the truth.

According to 2014 FBI statistical records, nearly half (46%) of all hate crimes are filed under “racial” motives, not religion, which are victimized and/or perpetrated between blacks and whites.  Crimes against Sexual orientation and Religious orientation are tied each at 18.6%.

In the Religious Hate Crimes category, the most victims – by far – has been the Jewish faith, which accounted for 57% of all hate crimes. Second, is Islam, at 16%. The remainder of anti-religious hate crimes are minuscule by comparison. This pattern is consistent year after year.

But we don’t hear much outrage from Jews, nor is it even addressed by our government leaders.  In December of 2015, President Obama’s Attorney General, Loretta Lynch spoke at a Muslim dinner at the White House in which she railed against those who target Muslims for hate crimes, with nary a mention about hate crimes against Jews which are nearly FOUR TIMES that of Muslims.

She said, “Since 9/11, we’ve had over 1,000 investigations into acts of anti-Muslim hatred, including rhetoric and bigoted actions, with over 45 prosecutions arising out of that. I think sadly that number’s going to continue.”

     So, who’s surprised?

President Obama and Loretta Lynch do not acknowledge that Muslims – not Jews — are committing nearly 2,000 acts of deadly terror each year around the globe. Neither do they mention that Muslims are responsible for nearly all religious-based terrorism in the United States, compared to ZERO for Jews. Since 9/11/2001, other than the 2,996 who died then, 42 additional terror attacks have been attributed to Islamic radicalism on American soil, in which 88 innocent people were randomly murdered. (This doesn’t take in to account the scores who were injured)

The count for Jewish perpetrators?  ZERO

Thousands of people killed and wounded from radical Islamic terror attacks in the U.S. in the last 15 years, have had wives, husbands, mothers and fathers, children, friends, coworkers, neighbors, fellow worshippers, and etc., who add into the millions. Is it any wonder that millions of Americans, as well as people around the world, fear Muslims, hold hostile feelings toward Muslims, dislike, distrust or worry about Muslims?

If a certain group of hostile people from a particular sect repeatedly terrorized a neighborhood, how would that make residents feel?  Welcoming?

Meanwhile, actual hostilities in the U.S. are four times greater toward a religious group who terrorizes no one.

Why doesn’t the president and his minions ever acknowledge that?

A FRANK MOVIE REVIEW: “SPOTLIGHT” – 9

SPOTLIGHT”   –   9

This was like watching the unravelling of the Watergate scandal, only based in a church and not the White House. Same components; Newspaper reporters, government liars, high-level cover-ups and a story that exposes corruption and abuse of power.

A riveting movie. Not because of action, sex or special effects. But, because of the powerful storyline brought to the viewer by great acting and directing, and daring revelations which we will not often see in the mainstream motion picture industry.

The movie is based on a true story about decades-long rampant child abuse within the Catholic Church, which was ultimately exposed by the Boston Globe in 2002.  Editorial supervisor, Michael Keaton, heads the key reporters played by Mike Ruffalo and Rachel McAdams. They are supported by a newly implanted chief editor (Liev Schreiber) who has no roots in Boston, ergo, no political or religious affiliation. The team is hell-bent on digging into the bowels of church history, focusing mainly on predatory sex abuse by priests.  Most importantly, the Globe’s objective was not to identify one or two priests, but several dozen over a period of 30 years which was known about and covered up by the church hierarchy. The goal was to expose the system, not only the abusers.

Eventually, the scandal reached to the four corners of the planet, to and including many other jurisdictions in the United States.

Folks should know that several interviews take place in which prior victims of sex abuse, now adults, are explicit with details of their encounters with priests.

The movie brings to light some of the psychology behind the behavior of criminal priests, how and why they evolved into abusers and how easy it was to exploit kids while the top layer of church power turned a blind eye. I’m sure the Pope wasn’t pleased to learn of this release.

Folks, especially Catholics, who are sensitive about their faith, might feel uncomfortable sitting through this movie, but it is important to understand how criminal conduct can be cloaked in smiles, lies and corruption…not much different than what can happen in government.

It’s an eye opener. Worth a 9 out of 10.

IS OBAMA A CHRISTIAN?

Is Barack Obama really a Christian?  Or did he portray himself as a Christian for political expediency?

From what we know about Obama’s history, it is clear that his political ambitions were rooted on or around the time he met Rev. Jeremiah Wright, pastor of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago ( or perhaps, earlier). Those of us who stay tuned to the political world, are fully aware that Jeremiah Wright’s sermonizing and ideology is based on American hatred, and his chummy relationship with the Jew-hating Nation of Islam. Obama not only sat in the pews of this church for 20 years, he was a powerful supportive figure aligning with Wright behind the scenes.

Would a Carter, Reagan, Clinton or Bush ever have been elected if they had a history of close associations with anti-Americans?

Perhaps Obama’s political advisors suggested he become a “Christian” as part of his future strategy?  Or maybe he linked up with Christianity on his own, we’ll probably never know.  But, for certain, by joining the Trinity Church, Obama could officially declare himself as a Christian, (whether true or not) thereby sucking millions of future voters into his political web. But, does anyone know of a bona fide Christian minister who would preach “God Damn America?”

Then again, would anyone who is a Christian, ever make a verbal error by stating to a news reporter, (George Stephanopoulos,) “my Muslim faith,” which had to be corrected by the reporter.  By any stretch of the imagination, would any non-muslim make such as slip? (See video link, below)

Nevertheless, besides verbally declaring his immersion into Christianity, has the president actually gone beyond words, with substantive action?

Nothing is more revealing than the present state of genocide against Christianity, world-wide, that has emerged since his rise to become the so-called leader of the free world. As fast as Obama had been at issuing condemnations when a white cop shoots a black person, or when anyone defames Islam or dares to suggest that Islam is associated with terror, that’s how slow he is in condemning, yet fighting, the radical Islamic war against Christians.

Liberal syndicated columnist, and frequent defender of Barack Obama, Kirsten Powers recently penned a critical column in USA Today and many other papers which questions Obama’s reasons for failing to stand up for the world-wide persecution of Christians, which has accelerated greatly during the his reign as President of the United States, while at the same time, radical Islam has become more dangerous and powerful than ever. I invite readers to check out her piece via this link:   Click here: Kirsten Powers: Christians thrown overboard left to drown by Obama

It may be the tip of the proverbial iceberg because the news media simply cannot report it all, and there is likely far more going on behind the scenes we’ll never know about.  Here’s the truth, as we know it so far:

  •  During the “Arab Spring” of 2011-12, which was strongly supported by the Obama administration, more than eighty Coptic (Christian) churches were burned/destroyed throughout Egypt and many thousands of Coptics were killed and/or displaced. The White House remained basically mute about these atrocities
  • Videoed beheadings and murders of Christian men in Libya and other places.
  • Christian children are being murdered and beheaded in Iraq.
  • A college was invaded by militants in Kenya, where 147 Christians were massacred for no other reason than being Christian, another 80 injured and 600 more who have been displaced.

This could be a very long article, yet we get the message. But, does the president?

We hear nothing from Barack Obama, yet any definitive responses that would come to the rescue of these Nazi-like horrors, where Christians are clearly being targeted for death, and to be made examples for the future of middle-east Christianity if people refuse to convert to Islam. Obama was quick to muster air assaults against Ghaddafi in Libya, to support the Muslim Brotherhood, but our president is conspicuously silent on Christian genocide.

This, by the way, is the crux of how Islam spread around the world so effectively between 632 A.D. and 711 A.D. Murder, terrorize, enslave, convert then keep the peace.

Meanwhile, desperate people have begged for help from the leader of the free world, to no avail.

The more the terrorists realize they are free to do as they wish, and that the free world is basically impotent, the more beholden they will become in their quest for establishing a caliphate where they want it…leaving lots of dead bodies behind.

Frankly, I don’t care if Obama is, or is not a Christian. I don’t judge people based on their religion or absence of it. What I do care about is the lie. For once we know it has been a lie, the next questions are:  1) What was the purpose of the lie? 2) What other matters of importance would he lie about? 3) Where does his true loyalties lie?

Imagine this. An American president utters a brief somber statement after an American journalist, James Foley, had just been hideously beheaded by Islamist militants for all the world to see and, within minutes, he’s back with the boys teeing off on the golf course.

Is Barack Obama a Christian?  What do you think?
