Every so often, we might discover that we had made a difference in someone’s life but never knew it. I’m not talking about family and friends, but some human being out of the past who wasn’t particularly meaningful to you, but you were meaningful to him or her.

Such was the case three years ago, when a man in his mid forties attended one of my book talks at a West Florida library. He approached me after, not for a book, but to hug. At first I was taken aback, because he looked me somewhat adoringly, directly in the eyes. Then, he said, “Thank you. You don’t remember me, but when I was a teenager, thirty years ago, I was into drugs, crime and bad company, heading for a lot of trouble. You read me the riot act. It scared me so, I never forgot it. That’s why I joined the Navy and got my life in order. It would not have happened if not for you.”

More recently, I was summoned to a hospital room to play violin music for a dying 78 year-old woman. Since 1980, Earline  had been the mother-in-law of my now-deceased friend. More than twenty years ago, I had played the violin during a gathering at his home. Earline was there. Nice lady. I didn’t know her very well.

In her final days, consumed with cancer, she had asked her daughter, Bobbie, (my friend’s wife), “Do you think Marshall Frank would come and play ‘Sunrise Sunset’ for me on his violin?”

Well, there’s a first for everything, even at 71.

I strolled through the lobby of Melbourne’s Holmes General Hospital, right past security, carrying a violin case (of all things), found my way to room 732A where I was greeted by Bobbie and a room full of grieving family. Emaciated now, Earline was seemingly half-unconscious, a breathing apparatus attached, mouth agape, gasping her final breaths.

They told me how Earline would often talk about me, especially my violin and my writings. Who would have known? Amid a room of bursting tears, I opened the case, lifted the fiddle and started “Sunrise Sunset.” I had to look out the window, or I’d have been caught up in the depth of emotion. It was important to play it…slowly, and well.

Bobbie and her daughter, Bridget (granddaughter), leaned over to embrace the woman. I could see her jaw move, ever so slightly. After, Bridget said she actually heard her grandmother vocalize part of the tune, every so weakly… “Is this the little girl I carried…Sunrise … Sunset…” Amazingly, she had heard the music. It was all so worth the moment.

She passed away later that same night. I left with the comfort of knowing that Earline was conscious enough to hear that loving tune from “Fiddler On The Roof,” and that it made a difference in her life, and in her death.

On the way home, thoughts raged. I reflected on my own background. Who were the long lost people that made some small or large difference in my life? I don’t mean family or friend. But, some remote figure from the deepest recesses of the past, who unknowingly altered my direction in some way.

A 10th grade history teacher named Mr. Tierney, who made a boring subject come alive, sparking my interest in history for the rest of my life.

A 7th grade bully named Stanley, who led a gathering of kids to beat me up after school, for folly. All because I danced and played violin. From that day on, I obsessed on fitting in, no matter what the cost to my future.

At age 10, meeting Jascha Heifetz in person, listening to his advice, “Practice!” So, I did.

Beatrice Laverne, owner of a Miami dance studio, who was the only person who came to my house to offer solace after my mother’s long struggle with cancer ended. She filled a huge void that day, one I will never forget. She taught me to be there when someone is in need. Don’t assume someone else is doing it.

1966. A cop named Richard.  He single-handedly changed police work for me, from a job into a career. I never even knew Richard, then the Chief of Detectives, other than reputation. But he knew me, and had faith enough to place me into the prestigious Homicide Bureau ahead of other aspiring applicants. Earlier that same week, disenchanted with wearing a badge for a living, I had already drafted my resignation, aiming toward a return to a career in music. Instead, the police career lasted 30 years, and today I enjoy a healthy pension — all because a man named Richard liked me.

Thanks Richard.

That’s just a few.

Now it’s your turn. What irony can you share about remote people from your past who made a significant difference in your life, though they may never have known it?

Maybe it’s time?

An Israel fact:
In April 2002, Palestinian terrorists carried out five unprovoked homicide/suicide bombings in five days, a period coinciding with the Jewish holiday of Passover. More than 40 Israeli civilians were murdered and more than 120 were wounded. Following the attacks, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said: “Citizens of Israel: The state of Israel is at war, a war against terror,’ Sharon said. ‘We must fight this terrorism, in an uncompromising war to uproot these savages, to dismantle their infrastructure, because there is no compromise with terrorists.” Sharon added that Arafat “activated, coordinated and directed the campaign against Israel and is the enemy of the free world.”

Arafat and his PLO was also behind the 1972 slaughter of eleven Israeli Olympic Athletes in Munich, 1972…not to mention two decades of terrorism that followed.

Note: Arafat was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994

So much for Nobel…and any other “Peace” prize winners. Not much different than giving Hitler the Humanitarian of the Year award.

Meanwhile, Israel is under constant pressure to “compromise,” and when they finally fight back, as any nation would fight back, the world community criticizes THEM.

I once asked a few Jewish friends, why it was that people have hated the Jews so much over the millennium. Answers varied, none of which satisfied me very much. So, I drew my own conclusion that the true reason Jews have been oppressed, discriminated against and murdered by the millions since pre-Biblical times, and until the present, can be summed up three simple words: They won’t convert. Jews are proud. They want to be Jews. That frustrates the hell out of religious fanatics who obsess with domination.

Over history, religion has been about control and power. Jews refused to give in to Egyptians. They were vilified by the early Christians, blamed for the death of Jesus and centuries later were faced with mass discrimination and murder by Crusaders and fanatical evangelists.

Muhammed was particularly frustrated with Jews in their villages, especially after he began his Medina-based expansion campaign throughout the mid-east. Jews wouldn’t convert. Thus, they were humiliated, forced to pay a dhimmi tax (unbeliever tax), and in some cases murdered by in beheadings. When the Jewish men were killed, their wives were taken as slaves/concubines and the children were hustled into Islamic madrases to get fully indoctrinated into the Koran.

Muhammed told his followers, “Spread Islam throughout the world.” They did. And not by peaceful means. That edict is still followed to this day by the hard core fundamentalist Islamists in every country they live in. According to their belief, Jews are hated, they are the enemy, Jews must be subservient to Islam, Jews must convert, or Jews must be killed. It would be nice to see the world through rose-colored glasses and think this is a small group of nuts who espouse this obsession. Unfortunately, it’s gone on for 1400 years. It hasn’t gone away.

Meanwhile, following the Holocaust, Jews finally formed a homeland in 1948, thanks to the United Nations, in a place called Israel, which they had been their homeland over two thousand years ago, 600 years before Muhammed was a twinkle in his father’s eye. Long before the birth of Islam.

Palestinians were offered their own homeland, but refused. Instead, Israel was became the repeated target of warring attacks by Arab nations. Palestinians refused to recognize the legitimate existence of Israel…to this day. That refusal, is the root of all the wars and aggression toward the tiny state of Israel, who only wish to live in peace among its neighbors.

It’s interesting to note, that Israel (or the Jewish people in general) have no designs on world domination. They have never espoused the desire to convert other nations, or other peoples. They do not wish to conquer any other nation. Instead, they only wish not to be conquered.

In the short 62 years that Israel has existed, their accomplishments and contributions to humanity around the world has been nothing less than astounding. This includes technical research, business development, medical science, sports, arts and music, agriculture, and so much more. They took arid deserts and made them into thriving oases, forests and farms. All this, while their hateful neighbors spend their time effort and money, not only trying to destroy Israel, but maintain a constant vigil of hate, teaching their children to hate. That, plus a propaganda campaign that impacts world opinion against them. In truth, the rest of the world cowers to the 57 state Islamic UN block for one reason: Arabs have the trump card called Oil. Without oil, they would still be living in tents, riding camels, bowing to sheiks and enslaving women.

If I were to list the contributions of that tiny nation in a single blog, it would take hundreds of pages. But here’s a few stats, demographics and contributions to give you a sampling:

* With 7.5 million people, Israel’s citizens includes 16 percent, or 1.2 Arab Muslims. (What other country in the mid-east embraces Jewish participation?)

* Currently, 13 of Israels’ governing body (Knesset) are elected Arabs/Muslims. (Same Question)

  *    As of March 22nd, 35 rockets have been fired from Palestinians just in 2010. One killed a Thai woman in a town in southern Israel

* Since 2001, over 9000 rockets have been arbitrarily launched into Israel by Palestinians, with a death toll of 29 civilians. Many of those came after the return of Gaza to the Palestinians in 2005.

* Israel is the 100th smallest country with less than 1/1000th of the world’s population.
* Israel has the highest ratio of university degrees to the population in the world.
* Israel produces more scientific papers per capita than any other nation by a large margin -109 per 10,000 people – as well as one of the highest per capita rates of patents filed.
* In proportion to its population, Israel has the largest number of startup companies in the world. In absolute terms, Israel has the largest number of startup companies than any other country in the world, except the US (3,500 companies mostly in hi-tech).
* Israel is ranked #2 in the world for venture capital funds right behind the US.* Outside the United States and Canada, Israel has the largest number of NASDAQ listed companies.

* Israel has the highest average living standards in the Middle East. The per capita income in 2000 was over $17,500, exceeding that of the UK.

* Israel’s $100 billion economy is larger than all of its immediate neighbors combined.

* Twenty-four percent of Israel’s workforce holds university degrees – ranking third in the industrialized world, after the United States and Holland – and 12 percent hold advanced degrees.

* Israel is the only liberal democracy in the Middle East.

* When Gold Meir was elected Prime Minister of Israel in 1969, she became the world’s second elected female leader in modern times.

* When the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya was bombed in 1998, Israeli rescue teams were on the scene within a day – and saved three victims from the rubble.

* Israel has the third highest rate of entrepreneurship – and the highest rate among women and among people over 55 – in the world.

* Relative to its population, Israel is the largest immigrant-absorbing nation on earth. Immigrants come in search of democracy, religious freedom, and economic opportunity.

* According to industry officials, Israel designed the airline industry’s most impenetrable flight security. U.S. officials now look to Israel for advice on how to handle airborne security threats.

* In 1991, during the Gulf War, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra played a concert wearing gas masks as scud missiles fired by Saddam Hussein fell on Tel Aviv.

* Israel has the world’s second highest per capita of new books.

* Israel is the only country in the world that entered the 21st century with a net gain in its number of trees.

* Israel has more museums per capita than any other country.

* Israeli scientists developed the first fully computerized, no-radiation, diagnostic instrumentation for breast cancer.

* An Israeli company developed a computerized system for ensuring proper administration of medications, thus removing human error from medical treatment. Every year in U.S. hospitals 7,000 patients die from treatment mistakes.

* Israel’s Givun imaging developed the first ingestible video camera, so small it fits inside a pill. Used to view the small intestine from the inside, the camera helps doctors diagnose cancer and digestive disorders.

* Researchers in Israel developed a new device that directly helps the heart pump blood, an innovation with the potential to save lives among those with congestive heart failure. The new device is synchronized with the heart’s mechanical operations through a sophisticated system of sensors.

* With more than 3,000 high-tech companies and start-ups, Israel has the highest concentration of hi-tech companies in the world (apart from the Silicon Valley).

* In response to serious water shortages, Israeli engineers and agriculturalists developed a revolutionary drip irrigation system to minimize the amount of water used to grow crops.

* Israel has the highest percentage in the world of home computers per capita.

* Israel leads the world in the number of scientists and technicians in the workforce, with 145 per 10,000, as opposed to 85 in the U.S., over 70 in Japan, and less than 60 in Germany.

* The cell phone was developed in Israel by Motorola, which has its largest development center in Israel.

* Most of the Windows NT operating system was developed by Microsoft-Israel.

* The Pentium MMX Chip technology was designed in Israel at Intel.

* Voice mail technology was developed in Israel.

* The technology for AOL Instant Messenger was developed in 1996 by four young Israelis.

* A new acne treatment was developed in Israel which produces an ultraviolet-light-free, narrow-band blue light that causes acne bacteria to self-destruct – all without damaging surroundings skin or tissue

* An Israeli company was the first to develop and install a large-scale solar-powered and fully functional electricity generating plant, in southern California’s Mojave desert.

This is the country that its many enemies wish to destroy. If they succeed, the loss would not only be Israel’s, it would be all of humanity…including their enemies.

The ultimate goal never varies. World domination and control.

It was Muhammed who instructed his followers to spread Islam throughout the world. And they did. They’ve never stopped in that pursuit. Whether it be the sweep across north Africa and Spain in the 7th century, or the Ottoman Empire, or the battles at Vienna in the 16th century, the Barbary Pirates of the Mediterranean in the 18th century, the obsession remains intact. Radical followers of Islam do not, may not, and will not relent. The only question is, method. And, if we — in the free world — are able to withstand the movement, on behalf of our grandchildren.

We cannot, if we don’t open our eyes and acknowledge that this enemy exists, and that this enemy has a plan, and that they are very powerful, cleverly organized and infinitely financed. That cannot happen if we continue apologizing for who and what we are. That cannot happen with appeasement, because that’s exactly what they are looking for.

Part of that plan, is to change western cultures via legal infiltration. It is employed slowly and with great stealth, so that society doesn’t even realize what is happening as it happens. And that’s just the way they want it.

Legal Infiltration?

* Financing major universities, in exchange for Islamic patronage, i.e. professors, foot baths, Islamic studies, altered rules, women only classes,

* Supporting and controlling politicians on both sides of the aisle.

* Silence critics of Islam by forming protests, interrupting speeches, demonstrations and intimidation.

* Prohibit law enforcement from performing strip searches on Islamic prisoners

* Compel teachers and students to wear Islamic garb during Ramadan.

* Successfully refuse to allow female Drivers License pictures without a Hijad

* Islamic employees may refuse to handle any pork product while working in a grocery store

* Taxi drivers may refuse to carry passengers if they are carrying wine or with a dog.

* Imposing Islam into schools and text books to influence captive youth in America.

* Filing intimidation law suits against people, like me, who speak out and inform the general public about the emerging threat of radical Islam in the world. We may lose, but they actually win by costing defendants many thousands of dollars to defend, thus creating deterrence against free speech in the future.

The most vital threat facing the future of America, is not health care, not inflation or housing, the sinking dollar, not our image abroad. It’s Radical Islam and the inroads that global jihad is making toward the ultimate goal of world domination either through terror or by infiltrating our infrastructure. All other issues are trumped by this threat, because if they succeed, none of the above will be relevant any more. There won’t be a constitution to protect any of us. We will be ruled by Sharia Law. Well…our grandchildren will.

That’s why we need leaders, now, who are willing to fearlessly bring these issues to the attention of Americans, and to fight against this enemy as strongly as we fought against Nazis, Imperial Japanese, and the Communist Soviet Bloc.

The 535 members of congress — 100 senators and 435 House members — are too smart, too close to the facts and too well informed, not to know about this threat. Most are short sighted – only concerned with winning their seats, and dealing with the “Now” issues. This is not about Democrat and Republican, conservative or liberal. It’s about protecting the liberties of our great grandkids in future generations.

Sue Myrick is one Congressional representative (R-NC) who has had the guts to speak out and call it what it is. Newt Gingrich, former House Speaker, has had the guts to speak out in clear language, how serious this threat really is. There are few others. They are too afraid. Political correctness will be the death of us.

Along comes a fellow, U.S. Army Lt. Col. Allen West, (Ret.) From Palm Beach County, Florida. West is not afraid. West has self-educated himself to the history and world dynamics of global jihad and makes no secret of where he stands. He is running for congress this year in Florida’s 22nd District.

West is a multi-decorated veteran, including the Bronze star, having served in Operation Desert Storm and in Iraq. His one career tarnish stems from a 2003 accusation of prisoner abuse during an interrogation of a suspect in Taji in which his troops had allegedly struck the man. West admits that he fired his pistol into a barrel, near the man’s head. At the military hearings, West was asked if he would do it again. His response: “If it’s about the lives of my men and their safety, I’d go through hell with a gasoline can.”

The suspect cracked and coughed up information about a planned ambush on West’s convoy, thwarting the attack. According to West, there were no further ambushes on U.S. forces in Taji until he left his leadership post on October 4, 2003.

If true, the shot into the barrel was worth the bullet, and the suspect’s soiled underwear.

During his campaign, West — an historian as well — has demonstrated his awareness of radical Islam’s sordid history and the impending threat to the free world. He is one politician that is unafraid. He is someone we should be listening to. And, if he makes it to Washington D.C., there might well be more that will follow his lead.

That’s what this blog is all about, electing American patriots into office, versus…the non-patriots.

Please view a couple of videos which highlight the view of Col. West and judge for yourself.
